Bedford Schools Superintendent Joel Adelberg issued a notice to the community this week after learning that multiple students and staff members at Fox Lane Middle School will be forced to temporarily quarantine after potentially being exposed to the virus.

In response, Fox Lane Middle School will switch to remote learning from Tuesday, Nov. 10 through Friday, Nov. 13, with students returning to the classroom on Monday, Nov. 16. During the quarantine, Adelberg said that students are expected to attend every class via Google Meets at home.

Adelberg said that anyone who may have been exposed and should quarantine has already been contacted by district or health officials.

“Although we have been prioritizing and working hard to continue to learn and teach on-site, if we were to hold in-school classes this week, with the current shortage of faculty and staff due to quarantine orders, we would have to combine numerous classes and seat these large groups of students in the cafeteria, LMC, and gym,” he said.

According to Adelberg, “while in a single space, students could not participate in instruction via Google Meets,” potentially disrupting classes. Instead, they would be asked to work quietly on assignments posted on Google Classroom.

“Our goal is to preserve ‘live’ instruction and educate our students in the least disruptive manner,” he said. “We believe it is in the best interest of the students to continue to participate in the Google Meets like the students working from home.”

A determination on next week’s schedule is expected to be announced later this week. Check Daily Voice for new information when it is released.
